When the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-winning superstar (and future Grammy Legend) took the stage at the legendary Carnegie Hall on September 4, 1979, the concert was already a hotly-anticipated event. It would be the first of eleven consecutive shows through September 14 - the longest run in the Hall's history. Not only that, but every show in the five-level, 2,804-seat venue was sold out. (This record stood until 1987, when an artist played three straight weeks of sold-out shows there. That artist? Liza Minnelli.) Liza had the foresight to record the concerts; two years later, in 1981, she began selling the limited release at her live dates. The Live at Carnegie Hall double album preserved Liza's electrifying, roof-raising evening from start to finish, including definitive versions of familiar showstoppers such as John Kander and Fred Ebb's 'Cabaret,' 'But the World Goes 'Round,' and 'Theme From 'New York, New York'' as well as fresh versions of contemporary pop and classic Broadway standards from luminaries including George and Ira Gershwin, Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, Barry Manilow, and Melissa Manchester. But, deprived of proper retail distribution, the album never reached a wide audience - until now! Liza Minnelli's Live in New York 1979 (newly titled to avoid confusion with Liza's 1987 Carnegie Hall album) includes 2 LPs housed inside a gatefold jacket featuring the absolutely stunning original cover art by Andy Warhol. The insert has new introductions by both Ms. Minnelli and Great American Songbook champion Michael Feinstein, both of whom served as executive producers for this release, plus photos of the artist and liner notes from reissue producers Joe Marchese and Charles L. Like the introspective musings of fellow, mellow pop singer-songwriters such as Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson, Mayer's songs delve into the subtleties of relationships and their accompanying navel-gazing. "Bigger Than My Body" finds him not only on a search for self, but sounding like Matthews with his hint of falsetto, as "Something's Missing" does much the same on a bed of swirling guitar and the occasionally chiming chord. Then John Panduranga Henderson -- who sang with Ray Charles -- delivers a moaning, gospelized solo as Coltrane vamps on his blues. This isn't common Hare Krishna chanting, folks. This music is compiled from four privately pressed cassettes (Turiya Sings [1982]; Divine Songs [1987]; Infinite Chants [1992], and Glorious Chants [1995]) that Coltrane distributed to members of the Sai Antaram Ashram (which she founded) between 1982 and 1995. Some were recorded in professional studios; all were engineered by Baker Bigsby -- who oversaw the tape transfers here from the masters -- and represent a startling chapter in her musical legacy. The music exists in the space where "ecstatic" meets "heavy." Coltrane, known to her followers as Turiyasangitananda ("the Transcendental Lord's highest song of bliss"), brought all of her musical history to bear in these pieces, from her beginnings playing piano in the churches of Detroit and the hard bop she played there to Paris and New York, to the vanguard, which she embraced with openness and helped to redefine with a softer, more spacious approach.
The most amazing aspect of this music is what few have heard before: Coltrane's very deep and physical singing voice; her lead vocals are featured on most of the album, and it's another instrument she commands (though she wouldn't see it that way). On "Om Shanti," she accompanies herself on organ using breath control in an airy, devoted chant. On "Rama Rama," sarod, tablas, and her Oberheim synth add blissful dimensions to her quietly passionate singing. "Keshavas Murahara" commences with strings (her chart), Oberheim, and droning organ; her voice emerges as if from smoke, slowly intoning the prayer, dirge-like, but jazz informs her phrasing as the synth winds around her voice. The first half of "Journey in Satchidananda" features only her organ and Oberheim. It's droning, bluesy, and heavy -- nearly Gothic. When the Ashram Singers come in and Joshua Spiegelman adds a flute, some light enters. Tamil singer Sairam Iyer solos in his own language, opening the heart of the chant and bringing it home. Harp makes its presence felt on "Er Ra," where Coltrane's playing moves across Eastern and Western modes as her singing emerges in sweet, blues-inflected lines. Luaka Bop did everything right for The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turyirasangitananda, from getting full participation from her family to create an amazing package with a great long essay by Ashley Khan, to reminiscences, to excellent sound. This is not just ecstatic music, but cosmic soul music. Additional personnel: Walter Gray (cello); Rick Parashar (piano, organ, percussion). Engineers: Dave Hills, Don Gilmore, Adrian Moore. Recorded at London Bridge Studios, Seattle, Washington from March to April, 1991. Audio Remixer: Brendan O'Brien . For the twentieth anniversary of their debut Ten -- an event that arrives in 2011 and is being celebrated in 2009, but who's counting? -- Pearl Jam went all out and delivered not one but three reissues, all in increasing levels of lavishness. First off is a standard two-CD set, followed by a triple-disc set that adds a DVD of the band's 1992 performance for MTV Unplugged and then there's a gargantuan, frankly ludicrous, collectors edition that has all that plus four slabs of vinyl containing the two mixes of the album plus a 1992 live show, one cassette that replicates the original demo Eddie Vedder turned in as his audition, and assorted memorabilia that retails for $200.00. All this commotion camouflages the really noteworthy aspect of this anniversary edition: Pearl Jam brought in their longtime producer Brendan O'Brien to remix Ten from the ground up, to strip away the studio affectations of producer Rick Parashar and mixer Tim Palmer that made it a bright, shiny anomaly during the dingy heyday of grunge and make the album sound more liked the rest of the band's work (which O'Brien produced, after all). This isn't full-scale cultural revisionism on the order of George Lucas -- the original album is preserved in remastered form on the first disc -- nor is it akin to the massive reworking of Raw Power that took liberties with the aesthetics of a classic, altering some crucial reasons why it was influential, but rather like a director's cut that's designed to be closer to the artist's original intentions. Since Ten is the odd man out among Pearl Jam's albums -- its shimmering surfaces and gated rhythms too eager to crossover -- this revision also seems logical, bringing it closer to the sound and feel of Vs. and Vitalogy without drastically altering its character. Actually, it's quite arguable that this lean, muscular remix is a marked improvement on the original mix, as it's easier to focus on both the songs and group's interplay. The only room for complaint is that for a deluxe reissue this seems to skimp on the bonus tracks, never bothering to include all the relevant non-LP songs from Ten. It's seems that the logic behind their absence is that they're all available on the compilation Lost Dogs and the bonus material here is all unreleased: a version of "Brother" with vocals (an instrumental was on Lost Dogs), early versions of "Breath and a Scream" and "State of Love and Trust" recorded a year before the Singles soundtrack, and the unreleased "Just a Girl," "2000 Mile Blues," and "Evil Little Goat." Although the latter two sound like the unfinished outtakes they are, it's still nice to have all this material in circulation, but even so it doesn't feel quite right to have a reissue of Ten that misses the B-side "Yellow Ledbetter," a song that received a lot of radio play during the peak of the album's popularity. It also doesn't feel right to have that original demo available only as a cassette in the super-deluxe version of Ten -- or to have the live show only on vinyl, for that matter -- when it would have been easy to expand the set out to three CDs and have this material available for everyone, but in a sense, that's nitpicking: the mad collectors are going to invest in the $200.00 set while the less dedicated will be happy with the remix which is certainly reason enough to justify this entire multi-format project. This is the one that turned the world upside-down. Released as its creators evolved from pop group to phenomenon, WITH THE BEATLES both affirmed promise and proclaimed genius. A slew of memorable Lennon/McCartney compositions embraced pop at its most multi-faceted, robust, melancholic, excited, and wistful. Their grasp of melody and harmony startled, yet for every unusual chord sequence employed, the Beatles' vigor and sense of purpose remained true. Influences and mentors were acknowledged by a handful of cover versions, but the strength of the album lies in the group's own creations. WITH THE BEATLES freed artists to record their own material, and the course of pop was irrevocably changed.

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop/Rock

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/The-Beatles-WITH-THE-BEATLES09_9equd.jpg?v=1779543381
the-beatles-the-beatles-magical-mystery-tour-vinyl-vinyl
The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (Vinyl) [Vinyl]
The Beatles - The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (Vinyl) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 094638246510

The Beatles: John Lennon (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, harmonica, piano, harpsichord, organ, clavioline, Mellotron, maracas, tambourine, tape loops); George Harrison (vocals, guitar, violin, harmonica, Hammond organ, timpani, congas, firebell, tambourine, tabla); Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, flute, recorder, piano, acoustic & electric basses, bongos, congas); Ringo Starr (vocals, drums, maracas, tambourine, finger cymbals, tape loops). Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, Olympic Sound Studios, De Lane Lea and Chappell Recording Studios, London, England between November 24, 1966 and November 7, 1967. The U.S. version of the soundtrack for the Beatles' ill-fated British television special embellished the six songs that were found on the British Magical Mystery Tour double EP with five other cuts from their 1967 singles. (The CD version of the record has now been standardized worldwide as the 11 tracks found on the American version.) The psychedelic sound is very much in the vein of Sgt. Pepper's, and even spacier in parts (especially the sound collages of "I Am the Walrus"). Unlike Sgt. Pepper's, there's no vague overall conceptual/thematic unity to the material, which has made Magical Mystery Tour suffer slightly in comparison. Still, the music is mostly great, and "Penny Lane," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "All You Need Is Love," and "Hello Goodbye" were all huge, glorious, and innovative singles. The ballad "The Fool on the Hill," though only a part of the Magical Mystery Tour soundtrack, is also one of the most popular Beatles tunes from the era. Over the course of Cage the Elephant's career, each step along the way has attracted attention for the sounds they incorporated: Nirvana, Beck, the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, the White Stripes, Pixies. Now, enter the Black Keys. It's no surprise, given that the head Key, Dan Auerbach, produced the album at his Easy Eye Studio in Nashville. Entwined in their Southern-fried rock sound, Auerbach brings an organic production to Tell Me I'm Pretty, reportedly using first takes and scratch vocals. So while the band's sound has softened somewhat -- there's less rollicking fury and the feral edges have been smoothed (most notably on the plaintive beauty "How Are You True") -- the fresh depth and grit heard here are reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys' evolution once they hooked up with Josh Homme. As with that relationship, the young band's sound naturally takes on the flavor of the producer's band, and it's mostly for the better. Auerbach's signature Black Keys sound pops up on a few tracks: most notably on first single "Mess Around," which is a perfect El Camino hip-shaker, as well as the stomping "Punchin' Bag." Elsewhere, glimmers of former ferocity briefly pop up, especially on the sneering sleazy album closer "Portuguese Knife Fight," which sounds like "Down on the Street" Iggy Pop fronting the aforementioned Arctic Monkeys lads. For fans of the "old" Cage, the sparkly twang of "Trouble" harks back to their Pixies hero worship heyday: it apes "Where Is My Mind?" so expertly it even includes the line "God don't let me lose my mind." Despite the clear connections, it's not completely derivative. Cage the Elephant are maturing and their songs have a new heft to them, which may drive away some old diehards but will certainly attract new followers. ~ Neil Z. Estate - ATLAS [Vinyl]
Real Estate - Real Estate - ATLAS [Vinyl]
Barcode: 887828032013

Jersey-bred indie rock golden boys Real Estate arrived in the late 2000s with a subdued approach to guitar rock that stripped away all unnecessary clutter and presented their tuneful songs in a manner as attractive and steadfast as primary colors, spring days, comfort food, or any of life's basic staples. Free of gimmicks, pretense, and artifice, their tunes tapped into the insular, college-aged melancholia of the Clean or Yo La Tengo's soft summer-night pulsations, later moving into a markedly Go-Betweens-steeped phase on their more sophisticated 2011 album, Days. With third full-length Atlas, Real Estate grow even further into the sound they've been spinning for themselves, mellowing more while they become more nuanced in both playing and production. Beginning with "Had to Hear," the band's sound is decidedly signature, based on chiming chords and lilting vocals from songwriter Martin Courtney, lead guitar from Matt Mondanile that wanders between psychedelic curiosity and airy punctuation, and the surefooted rhythm section of drummer Jackson Pollis and bassist Alex Bleeker. All these elements feel increasingly familiar and confident. Their songs have always resided somewhere between head-in-the-clouds lightheartedness and day-dreamy nostalgia, but the ten songs that make up Atlas seem more mature, more deliberate, and lacking some of the carefree naivet? of earlier work. "Past Lives" ruminates on the strange feelings of returning to the neighborhood streets where the narrator spent his youth, while "Crime" relates a relationship in peril to something more harrowing and malicious. The upbeat "Talking Backwards" folds some of the nostalgic melancholia into a gorgeously produced pop song about long-distance communication breakdowns as bright and straightforward as Luna in their prime. The album was recorded in part at Wilco's Chicago studio the Loft, and the production is less hazy and more suited to the band's increasingly clear-headed melodies and expanded sounds, filled out with understated organ and keys from Matt Kallman this time around. Even seemingly buffering tracks like the Mondanile-penned instrumental "April's Song" (more in line with his solo compositions for Ducktails) and the Yo La Tengo/Galaxie 500-modeled "How Might I Live," sung by bassist Bleeker, seem to have a considered place in the album's flow. The songs float by quickly, not giving all of their secrets away at first listen. As Real Estate continue to grow into their own vision of pop, they take their place in a history of classic American indie bands, falling naturally in line behind the groups that influenced them as they add to the conversation with each subsequent album. ~ Fred Thomas

Format Detail: LP + MP3 DL Card

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

Sam Smith - Sam Smith - In The Lonely Hour (Bonus Tracks) [Import] [Vinyl]
Barcode: 602438807925

Track Listings
Disc 1
1Money On My Mind
2Good Thing
3Stay With Me
4Leave Your Lover
5I'm Not the Only One
6I've Told You Now
7Like I Can
8Life Support
9Not in That Way
10Lay Me Down
11Restart
12Latch
13La La La
14Make It to Me

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Sam-Smith-In-The-Lonely-Hour-Bonus-Tracks-Import_LCNDl.jpg?v=1779545342
the-carpenters-the-carpenters-lovelines-remastered-180-gram-vinyl-vinyl
The Carpenters - Lovelines (Remastered) (180 Gram Vinyl) [Vinyl]
The Carpenters - The Carpenters - Lovelines (Remastered) (180 Gram Vinyl) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 602557405309

Track Listings
Disc 1
1Lovelines
2Where Do I Go from Here?
3The Uninvited Guest
4If We Try
5When I Fall in Love
6Kiss Me the Way You Did Last Night
7Remember When Lovin' Took All Night
8You're the One
9Honolulu City Lights
10Slow Dance
11If I Had You
12Little Girl Blue

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/The-Carpenters-Lovelines-Remastered-180-Gram-Vinyl_4od6f.jpg?v=1779545612
the-carpenters-the-carpenters-voice-of-the-heart-remastered-180-gram-vinyl-vinyl
The Carpenters - Voice of the Heart (Remastered) (180 Gram Vinyl) [Vinyl]
The Carpenters - The Carpenters - Voice of the Heart (Remastered) (180 Gram Vinyl) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 602557531121

Track Listings
Disc 1
1Now
2Sailing On the Tide
3You're Enough
4Make Believe It's Your First Time
5Two Lives
6At the End of a Song
7Ordinary Fool
8Prime Time Love
9Your Baby Doesn't Love You Anymore
10Look to Your Dreams

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/The-Carpenters-Voice-of-the-Heart-Remastered-180-Gram-Vinyl_zcmj9.jpg?v=1779546042
david-byrne-st-vincent-love-this-giant-vinyl
LOVE THIS GIANT [Vinyl]

David Byrne and St.Vincent's Annie Clark are both artists with wide-ranging appetites for diverse sounds and collaboration, so perhaps it was inevitable that they would work together. With a beautiful 80-page booklet, and purporting to have 46 unreleased tracks, further inspection actually reveals less than meets the eye, at least for collectors.The problem is that real collectors have already heard most of this material, and not only through bootleg sources. Many of the previously unreleased tracks are just new mixes of live tracks that were issued as part of Stages, Live at Monterey, and Lifelines. Also included is a new mix of the "Gloria" single. While the sound quality is somewhat better (handled by the expert Eddie Kramer), the new mixes do not differ substantially from the earlier versions. With the inclusion of virtually all of In the West, and a few quality tracks from Rainbow Bridge and Crash Landing (without the wretched mid-'70s overdubs), The Jimi Hendrix Experience almost seems like a shelf-clearing exercise, taking care of the leftover tracks that fans have been clamoring for en masse.The real highlights of the set are the early studio outtakes, presumably from the cache that Chas Chandler withheld from Alan Douglas for so many years. Interestingly, one of the most enjoyable aspects of these studio outtakes is the control room banter that takes place. There isn't a ton of it, but there are some highly enjoyable moments. At the end of "Purple Haze," Hendrix starts to giggle and throws in "Mary Had a Little Lamb." The version of "Third Stone From the Sun" has Chandler and Hendrix's recording of the spoken bits used on the song, tacked on to the beginning. It's great to hear Hendrix cracking up throughout their interstellar conversation.Another moment subtly hints at the frictions that were to end up dissolving the Chandler-Hendrix partnership. After seven minutes of take 21 of "Bold As Love," Hendrix is heard to say, "let's try it one more time, alright?" to which Chas Chandler dejectedly replies "oooohh."The book itself is wonderful; all tracks are fully documented and annotated, with lots of photos, many previously unpublished. There are also recording studio log sheets, newspaper articles, poster/flyers, and Hendrix's handwritten lyrics reproduced. All in all, The Jimi Hendrix Experience is a fine addendum to the Hendrix legacy, but not the place to start; this is a set for someone who already has the studio albums and can't get enough of his genius. The disappointment a hardcore collector might feel at having heard most of this material already should be outweighed by the beautiful, warm sound achieved by Eddie Kramer and the general high quality of the package. ~ Sean Westergaard

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Jimi-Hendrix-Experience-The-Jimi-Hendrix-Experience-Boxset_tCYAc.jpg?v=1779546759
dead-can-dance-dead-can-dance-vinyl
DEAD CAN DANCE [Vinyl]

On the evidence of this, the band's first record, Dead Can Dance can clearly be seen as a "Goth" group in the vein of Bauhaus, et al. Marshall continued work on new material for years but was displeased with it, save for a set of mumbling-in-a-bucket hip-hop blues, A New Place 2 Drown, credited to his off-stage name. The Ooz, the artist's second King Krule album, surfaced -- or is that seeped out? -- five years after the first one. Compared to the debut, the songwriting is more refined and the sounds are more disparate, resulting in a sort of controlled chaos, a scuzzy mix of nervy neo-rockabilly projectiles, howling dirges, and noodling dive-lounge tunes. It's further distinguished with saxophonist Ignacio Salvadores' writhing bleats, continually in support of Marshall's scraggly guitar work and variety of voices, as liable to sound like his slumped natural self as an exaggeration of growling punks like the Clash's Paul Simonon or the Ruts' Malcolm Owen. Clear references are made to Marshall's previous full-lengths, and repeated allusions to water -- as in sinking -- as well as blue as a color and feeling, are likewise threaded throughout. Damp, suffocating city streets are never distant. When Marshall retreats to physical solitude, he can't leave his head -- not even with a prescription, a situation related in a whirling frenzy of insomniac agitation titled, naturally, "Emergency Blimp." Marshall is just as expressive and evocative when he keeps it guttural; "She smoked me whole and blows out Os," over decayed, dispirited bossa nova, passes like a wisp but could be the album's emotional center. Details that seem to provide levity -- "Man this band that's playin', is playing fucking trash" among them -- have a way of heightening the sense of inescapable dread. No matter that feeling, illustrated with one distressed scene after another, filtered through a multitude of inspirations and a few bodily fluids, The Ooz is a completely engrossing work from a one-off. ~ Andy Kellman

Handling Note: **Please allow an additional 72 hours for this item's shipment.**

Released: 10/13/2017

Format Detail: 2LP Gatefold

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

U2 - U2 - Unforgettable Fire (Ogv) (Rmst) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 602517924161

U2: Bono (vocals); The Edge (guitar, keyboards, vocals); Adam Clayton (bass);
Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums).
Additional personnel: Paul Barrett (synthesizer); Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois.
Recorded at Slane Castle, County Meath and Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland.
With a title inspired by an exhibition of paintings by Hiroshima and Nagasaki survivors, THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE confirmed U2 as one of a handful of bands able to tackle such vast and emotive subjects with dignity and musical integrity. Ballard's collection of the same title. "Notes Towards a Mental Breakdown," one of the chapters in the Ballard book, would have been just as apt an inscription on an album that looks more like a mid-'80s 12" designed by Neville Brody than anything classified as hip-hop. Old comrade Paul White produces two-thirds of the tracks, lending gnarled, sometimes clanging and blasting rhythms that complement Brown's elevated levels of dread and anxiety and slightly reduced amount of vulgar mischief. Brown spends most of his time looking darkly inward. In that berserk yet lucid high pitch, he raps about being more desperate to score than his clients: "Slice your tomato if you owe us for the lettuce/Runnin' through the D sorta like Jerome Bettis." He depicts himself as a vice-addled, teeth-grinding paranoiac with no soul or hope, and that summarizes only the first three cuts. The outward-looking material is just as biting. In "Today," the track that most exemplifies the album's title, Brown pithily specifies observed struggles and atrocities -- hustling to pay for diapers, the dodging of bullets from murderous civilians and authority, the prison-industrial complex -- as he references OutKast. No such dread is in "Dance in the Water," the album's only true break from the hellscapes. Over the brawling tribal Pulsallama rhythm that it takes to dance to what he has to live through, Brown paraphrases Parliament's "Aqua Boogie" as he outlines a new workout plan -- minus a proposition, one technically clean enough to be applied by youngsters. Guest appearances are kept to a judicious few. Kendrick Lamar provides a verse and the hook on "Really Doe," a knocking Black Milk production that also features Ab-Soul and Earl Sweatshirt. Brown's meeting with Cypress Hill's B-Real is expectedly pinched and faded. Most symbiotic is "From the Ground Up," decaying funk with Kelela in dreamlike Janet Jackson mode. Notably, Camila comes roughly two years after Cabello's much publicized departure from the all-female pop ensemble Fifth Harmony. While her exit begged some concerns (Was she a self-centered diva? Or just a singer with an abundance of personality and creative drive?), the release of several pre-album singles, most notably the deliciously steamy, piano-driven "Havana" (featuring rapper Young Thug), largely turned audiences in her favor. Purportedly, the reaction was so favorable it cause Cabellod (who was born in Cuba and raised in Miami) and her producers (Frank Dukes, Jarami, Skrillex, and others) to delay the album's release, adding songs that better reflected the Latin vibe of "Havana." Whatever the case, it worked, and there are several other Latin-inflected songs here, including the sultry, electronica-tinged, dancehall-ready "She Loves Control," and the buoyantly percussive, steel drum-flavored "Inside Out," in which Cabello sings briefly in Spanish. Along with the aforementioned "Havana," these are easily the most potent songs on the album, and showcase Cabello's effusively resonant voice and playful charisma. Elsewhere, cuts like the R&B-tinged anthem "All These Years" and the yearning, singer/songwriter-esque "Consequences" are emotionally resonant, lyrical songs that stick with you. There are also some nice, upbeat pop moments like the euphoric opener "Never Be the Same," with its falsetto pre-chorus and deftly placed Afro-Cuban drum sample. Similarly engaging is the steamy late-album banger "Into It," in which Cabello wryly coos to her would-be paramour, "Add up the things I wanna do to you, it's infinite/I mean...if you're into it." With tracks as contagious as "Into It" and "Havana," it's hard to imagine even the most resolute Fifth Harmony devotee not getting into it. Ultimately, Camila is a refreshing debut that makes good on Cabello's flight to pop freedom with songs that feel like they were borne out her own life experience and artistic point of view. ~ Matt Collar

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

Death - Death - HUMAN [Vinyl]
Barcode: 781676716517

Death includes: Chuck Schuldiner (vocals, guitar); Paul Masvidal (guitar); Steve DiGiorgio (bass); Sean Reinert (drums).
Human started to break Death to a wider audience, after Chuck Schuldiner nearly disbanded the group. Channeling everyone from the Dead to Mellow Gold-era Beck to Lou Reed, Vile comes off as malcontent, but there's an oddball warmth behind his laconic sneer that echoes the late slacker comedian Mitch Hedberg; for every "I wanna write my whole life down/burn it there to the ground" ("On Tour"), there's an "If it ain't workin', take a whiz on the world" ("Runner Ups"). Sweeter and a little more soulful than Prodigy, Halo leans harder on the urban folk side of Vile's disposition (the album opens with a straight-up love song), but tracks like the churning "Puppet to the Man" and "Society Is My Friend" pick up where Prodigy stompers like "Freak Train" and "Overnight Religion" left off. Vile's guitar work remains predictably strong, especially on the fingerpicked "Peeping Tomboy" and the shimmery title cut, but it's his efforltess, serpentine melodies and amiable, burnout wisdom that keep the listener so enthralled. Perhaps Perry shifted her approach after "Rise," the "Roar"-alike written for the 2016 Olympics that she also performed at that year's Democratic National Convention, failed to crack the Top Ten, perhaps she always planned to construct this album with electronic beats and synths, but Witness is so slick with synths it seems slippery. Arriving on the heels of Prism, a record littered with AAA crossover ballads, the dance-heavy Witness feels like a bit of a shock. The album is filled with songs where Perry attempts to address big cultural issues while walking a musical cutting edge. These conflicting desires surface on a tune as effervescent as "Chained to the Rhythm" -- the only track here that could be called that, although "Pendulum" comes close -- and a song as somnolent as "Bigger Than Me," the second of two ballads on the record and the one that addresses the fallout of the 2016 presidential election. Despite some sociological broad strokes, Perry generally keeps her focus personal -- and usually romantic, although "Swish Swish" plays like a swipe at another superstar -- a decision that, when married to aggressive EDM-pop, makes Witness feel very different than Prism. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country--there aren't fiddles here, there are violins--yet the production never feels garish, a crass attempt at a crossover success. It's small-scale and sweetly tuneful, always seeming humble even when the power ballads build to a big close. Swift's gentle touch is as enduring as her songcraft, and this musical maturity may not quite jibe with her age but it does help make FEARLESS one of the best mainstream pop albums of 2008.

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Taylor-Swift-FEARLESS-PLATINUM-ED_HAQaT.jpg?v=1779547839
whitesnake-whitesnake-slide-it-in-35th-anniversary-remix-2lp-red-vinyl-vinyl
Whitesnake - Slide It In (35th Anniversary Remix) (2LP, Red Vinyl) [Vinyl]
Whitesnake - Whitesnake - Slide It In (35th Anniversary Remix) (2LP, Red Vinyl) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 190295423926

Released: 04/10/2020

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Whitesnake-Slide-It-In-35th-Anniversary-Remix-2LP-Red-Vinyl_INMlC.jpg?v=1779547856
the-strokes-the-strokes-firstexplicit-vinyl
The Strokes - FIRST...(EXPLICIT) [Vinyl]
The Strokes - The Strokes - FIRST...(EXPLICIT) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 828767317717

The Strokes: Julian Casablancas (vocals); Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond, Jr. (guitar); Nikolai Fraiture (bass instrument); Fabrizio Moretti (drums).
With 2006's FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EARTH, the Strokes have not only crafted an album that cracks the 36-minute mark, they've also opted for a bolder sound, courtesy of veteran producer David Kahne. A band that has seen both over-the-top hype and its inevitable backlash, the Strokes seem eager to venture forward on FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EARTH, an album that should not only quiet accusations of sonic sameness but win over new fans.

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

Miles Davis - Miles Davis - KIND OF BLUE- MONO VINYL [Vinyl]
Barcode: 888837610315

Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis, it's an album that towers above its peers, a record generally considered as the definitive jazz album. To be reductive, it's the Citizen Kane of jazz -- an accepted work of greatness that's innovative and entertaining. That may not mean it's the greatest jazz album ever made, but it certainly is a universally acknowledged standard of excellence. Why does Kind of Blue posses such a mystique? Perhaps it's that this music never flaunts its genius. It lures listeners in with the slow, luxurious bassline and gentle piano chords of "So What." From that moment on, the record never really changes pace -- each tune has a similar relaxed feel, as the music flows easily. Yet Kind of Blue is more than easy listening. It's the pinnacle of modal jazz -- tonality and solos build from chords, not the overall key, giving the music a subtly shifting quality. All of this doesn't quite explain why seasoned jazz fans return to this record even after they've memorized every nuance. They return because this is an exceptional band - Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderly, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, and Wynton Kelly -- one of the greatest in history, playing at the peak of its power. As Evans said in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Davis laid out the themes and chords before the tape rolled, and then the band improvised. The end results were wondrous, filled with performances that still crackle with vitality. Few albums of any genre manage to work on so many different levels, but Kind of Blue does. It can be played as background music, yet it amply rewards close listening. It is advanced music that is extraordinarily enjoyable. It may be a stretch to say that if you don't like Kind of Blue, you don't like jazz -- but it's hard to imagine it as anything other than a cornerstone of any jazz collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Miles-Davis-KIND-OF-BLUE-MONO-VINYL_dqAJh.jpg?v=1779547982
nine-inch-nails-nine-inch-nails-pretty-hate-machine-2010-remastered-edition-2-lps-vinyl
Nine Inch Nails - PRETTY HATE MACHINE (2010 Remastered Edition) (2 Lp's) [Vinyl]
Nine Inch Nails - Nine Inch Nails - PRETTY HATE MACHINE (2010 Remastered Edition) (2 Lp's) [Vinyl]
Barcode: 602527567822

Nine Inch Nails: Trent Reznor (vocals, various instruments). It focuses on Francis' sci-fi fascination and lacks any Kim Deal songs; even her backing vocals are far and few between. Yet the band sounds revitalized on Trompe le Monde, as if it were planned as their last hurrah. The raucous "Distance Equals Rate Times Time" and the explosive cover of the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Head On" are fairly straightforward, but the lyrics remain quirky on "Planet of Sound," a song about a Martian who lands on Earth, and "Palace of the Brine," a tribute to sea monkeys and Utah's Salt Lake. He even disses hipsters and pretentious students -- basically, the Pixies' fan base -- with nasty little digs like "Subbacultcha"'s "I was wearing eyeliner/She was wearing eyeliner" and "U-Mass"' "It's eduuucaaationaal!" Musically, "Trompe le Monde"'s psychedelic sheen and "Alec Eiffel"'s atmospheric keyboards prove that the Pixies' sound wasn't defined by Steve Albini-style rawness. There's also more emotional depth: "The Sad Punk" features the strangely poignant bridge "And evolving from the sea/Would not be too much time for me/To walk beside you in the sun," and "Letter to Memphis" is a heartfelt, if cryptic, love song. Though Trompe le Monde doesn't sound quite like the Pixies' other work, Come on Pilgrim's spooky beginnings, Surfer Rosa's abrasive assault, Doolittle's deceptively accessible punk-pop, and Bossanova's spacy sonics helped make Trompe le Monde a rousing swan song and a precursor to alternative rock's imminent success. Whether that means their music remained pure or they missed their chance to cash in is debatable; either way, the Pixies are one of America's greatest, most influential bands. ~ Heather Phares

Format Detail: LP 180g standard Jacket

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

The Steeldrivers - The Steeldrivers - Reckless [LP] [Vinyl]
Barcode: 888072057555

The Steeldrivers may play traditional bluegrass, but they do it with a style that's informed by outlaw country and rock & roll attitude. Mike Henderson, who plays mandolin, resophonic guitar, and harmonica and also co-writes the majority of the band's original tunes, was one of the founders of the Dead Reckoning label, an alt-country label that released some of the best non-Nashville country albums of the '90s. That maverick approach is evident in the sounds the Steeldrivers generate here. The tempos on Reckless are more varied than those on their self-titled debut, but even the slower tracks pack the big emotional punch that bluegrass fans love, the kind of feeling that used to make country music dangerous. Case in point: "Guitars, Whiskey, Guns and Knives," a midtempo romp that manages to celebrate and caution against excess at the same time, with quite a bit of dark humor. Chris Stapleton sings lead with a powerful low tenor that's equal parts country and bluegrass. "Ghosts of Mississippi" takes us down to the crossroads at midnight with Richard Bailey playing haunted bluesy banjo to complement the dark harmonies of Henderson and Stapleton. "Good Corn Liquor" is a brooding tale of moonshine and marginal living. A good man turns to illegal activity to save his family only to die at the hands of an overzealous sheriff. The tune is delivered with a deadpan grace that intensifies its message. On the brighter side there's "Higher Than the Wall," an ode-to-true-love song cast in the mode of a jailhouse song. Fiddler Tammy Rogers joins Henderson and Stapleton on the high harmonies, and while the tempo is measured, the message is uplifting. Rogers' hot fiddling, Bailey's banjo, and Stapleton's vocal add a jubilant sense to "Angel of the Night" that's intensified by the hint of ragtime in the rhythm bassist Mike Fleming lays down. "Where Rainbows Never Die" takes a clear-eyed look at mortality with a spiritual, rather than religious, feel. Henderson's melancholic resonator guitar plays off nicely against the angelic backing harmonies Rogers supplies. ~ j. poet

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/The-Steeldrivers-Reckless-LP_KLTEE.jpg?v=1779548632
blood-orange-blood-orange-freetown-sound-vinyl
Blood Orange - FREETOWN SOUND [Vinyl]
Blood Orange - Blood Orange - FREETOWN SOUND [Vinyl]
Barcode: 887828036912

Devont? Hynes' genre-hopping career has been nothing if not an exploration of identity. So if Hynes' time with Test Icicles represents early teenage angst, and Lightspeed Champion is the melancholic bewilderment of the early twenties, then surely Blood Orange is the assured, almost full-blown, adult? Not quite. Although the quest for personal discovery never truly ends, there comes a time when we stop looking inward and begin to question our place in the wider picture, fraught with injustice, prejudice, and peers who are just as lost. The struggle with identity and its interaction with the world is perfectly captured within the 17 tracks of Freetown Sound; often confusing, with multiple overlapping thoughts, the album charts a parallel course through Hynes' personal reflections on race and gender, and his impetus to call out the obstacles shared by all those who consider themselves outsiders.
Hynes' reflection is far-reaching, going all the way back to the capital of Sierra Leone's complex history -- where his father was born -- for its thematic roots. The complex tapestry is woven from the present, though, "Augustine" being a fine example of this as Hynes discusses his parents, his current situation, and the effect that Christianity has had on all of their lives. He quotes Saint Augustine, references Trayvon Martin, and even sings in Krio toward the end; that's all achieved in less than five minutes. Considering that the album clocks in at around an hour, it's easy to imagine the overall density. There are so many ideas, guest appearances, and samples that Hynes transcends the concept of a personal record; Freetown Sound is the closest you'll get to being Devont? Hynes' mind, body, and soul. Such a complex experience makes the first listen challenging; the first half of the album swims past in a woozy, yet harmonious, deluge of expressions, thoughts, and feelings. Initially, latching onto something concrete proves difficult, but around halfway the picture becomes a little more focused. "Hands Up" and "Hadron Collider" mark the change; the latter track, with its standout guest vocal from Nelly Furtado, shines in particular.
There are so many collaborators here, but none really stand out like Samantha Urbani or Skepta did on Cupid Deluxe. They instead seem to represent the circle of influence and influencers present in Hynes' life; there's always been an argument that identity is a reflection of the company you keep. The number of guests present, whether with full vocals or just short clips, only goes to show how far Hynes has expanded his sphere in the last three years. The record is so personal that the only one able to understand every layer is Hynes himself. As a result, Freetown Sound can come across as weighty, indecipherable chaos to some. But for anyone who can relate to him on some level, it's hard not to be in awe of a man as complicated as Devont? Hynes being able to compose such an insightful, personal experience. ~ Liam Martin

Format Detail: 2LP + MP3 DL Card

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Blood-Orange-FREETOWN-SOUND_QOW1H.jpg?v=1779548801
bob-dylan-bob-dylan-blood-on-the-tracks-vinyl
Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks [Vinyl]
Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks [Vinyl]
Barcode: 190759506615

Tracks
- Disc 1 -
1 Tangled Up in Blue
2 Simple Twist of Fate
3 You're a Big Girl Now
4 Idiot Wind
5 You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go
- Disc 2 -
1 Meet Me in the Morning
2 Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
3 If You See Her, Say Hello
4 Shelter from the Storm
5 Buckets of Rain

Released: 6/28/2019

Format: Vinyl

Genre: Pop

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0563/8085/0374/products/Bob-Dylan-Blood-On-The-Tracks_659hq.jpg?v=1779548876
vile-kurt-speed-sound-lonely-kv-ep-vinyl
Speed, Sound, Lonely KV - EP [Vinyl]

Available physically January 15th, Kurt Vile’s Speed, Sound, Lonely KV (ep) was recorded and mixed in sporadic sessions that spanned four years at The Butcher Shoppe studio in Nashville, TN.
