Fang Island didn’t just bring catchy riffs—they brought joy. As guitarist Georges said, “we sounded like everyone high-fiving everyone.” Blending '80s metal vibes with hardcore energy, their music radiated pure fun.
Started as a side project in Providence’s DIY art scene, Fang Island quickly became a “recess rock” phenomenon, standing out with upbeat, major-key guitar riffs while their peers leaned into noise-rock. In 2010, Pitchfork’s Best New Music shoutout thrust them from hot dog stands in Ohio to SXSW stages, eventually leading to tours with psych-rockers the Flaming Lips and punk icons Coheed & Cambria.
Major came in 2012, upping the stakes with bigger hooks and shinier production, reflecting their shift from weekend jam band to full-time touring act. And while they ended on a high note with a Barcelona show as fireworks went off, their legacy remains, thanks to this reissue.
