I am excited about this upcoming release from New West, not only does it feature tons of New West artists but the part that's got me on the edge of my seat is the never before released live recording from Townes Van Zandt!

Originally from Rhode Island, David Olney made his mark in Nashville in the early 70s, where he found his place among a group of talented songwriters. His journey intertwined with the likes of Townes Van Zandt, John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, and Rodney Crowell. With his rock band, David Olney and the X-Rays, he hit the road, touring tirelessly and sharing his music with the world.

Why David Olney Stands Out

Despite not achieving mainstream stardom, David Olney's impact on the music industry was profound. He released a series of remarkable albums, and his songs were covered by renowned artists such as Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Del McCoury, and Linda Ronstadt. His unique vision and storytelling set him apart, earning him respect and admiration from his peers.

A Tribute to a Musical Maverick

David Olney's legacy lives on through this album, where his friends and colleagues come together to honor his memory. These artists, many of whom are legends in their own right, pay tribute to David's artistry and influence. Each track is a heartfelt homage to a man who dedicated his life to his craft and left an indelible mark on the music world.

David Olney may not have basked in the bright lights of fame, but his impact on those who knew him and his music is immeasurable. His untimely passing while performing on stage is a poignant reminder of his dedication and passion for his art. This album serves as a fitting tribute to a man who lived and breathed music until his final moments.

This album features new versions of David Olney songs recorded by Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Willis Alan Ramsey, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Mary Gauthier, Jim Lauderdale, and Buddy Miller among others. The tracklist is also highlighted by a never-before released live recording by Townes Van Zandt.
