Buffalo Killers were founded in 2006, shortly after guitarist Andrew Gabbard and his brother, bassist Zachary Gabbard, decided to break up their previous band, the powerful Stones-influenced garage rock act Thee Shams. Only a few months after Thee Shams called it quits, the Gabbard brothers joined forces with drummer Joseph Sebaali (who had played keys with Thee Shams for a spell) and set off in a very different musical direction with Buffalo Killers. Wasting no time, the band cut its self-titled debut album at John Curley's Ultrasuede Studios and landed a deal with Alive Records by the fall of 2006. The album won enthusiastic notices from the independent rock press, and the Buffalo Killers set out to support the release with lots of road work. They opened for the Black Crowes during their 2007 US fall tour.Lots of traditional inferences can be correlated in their music, from Neil Young's days in Crazy Horse and the Allman Brothers, along with the country blues stylings of The Greenhornes and the contemporary vibes of the Trainwreck Riders and Two Gallants. Buffalo Killers' debut album delivers country blues with an assortment that keeps the tempo laid back and the movements chilled. - Hybrid Magazine From the slinky, psychedelic blues riff of "San Martine des Morelle" and the Stonesy slide lightning of "The Path Before Me," it's apparent that Buffalo Killers are working a slightly more sophisticated and yet still viscerally powerful angle on their debut.
