A Fine Time! The South Side of Soul Street [CD]

With this amazing overview of Minaret Records’ soul output, Sundazed corrects the commercial injustice befalling perhaps the greatest little lost southern record label. We’ve mixed Deep Soul collector faves from Johnny Dynamite, Genie Brooks and Doris Allen with lesser-heard gems from the likes of Leroy Lloyd and the Dukes (who shared personnel with James Brown), The Double Soul, and Candy & Billy. The latter, for years rumored as early Candi Staton, has since been fessed-up in interview by the soul queen herself. Tremendous in-house songwriting and a fabulously fun history of the Florida-based label make this a must for fans of pure, undiluted southern soul music.
