A gentle Brasilo-Californian tune is the perfect bed for Laura's carefully uninflected delivery, Alfreds subtle backing vox and a sly use of turntablistic polyrhythms. The result is as unaffected as it is affecting, genuinely sweet in an era when that more often than not means Sunny D rather than honey.Three great remixes follow. Nu-folksters Tunng twist the original into a slamming hoedown of a clog-stomper, all sly electronic twists and good time guitar. Fink re-tools his own brand of dubtronik soul-folk to space the tune out and add a feather bed of his own vox for the lovers to lie on. Computer Jay, on the other hand, decides to let the rhythm hit 'em with bruising claps and Trumpton stylings. Rather like a female Hal saving her male counterpart from himself.
