Author Biography

Alan Mills was a folksinger, writer, and actor who released several albums on Folkways Records. His performance at the 1960 Newport Folk Festival was preserved on a Vanguard recording. He also found lasting success as a singer with the CBC radio show "Folk Songs for Young Folk," which ran from 1947-59. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1974. As a member of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Gilles Vigneault is hailed as one of Canada's most influential music figures of the 20th century, especially as a champion Qué bé cois folksinger. His work often evokes his great love of nature and the passion he has for his hometown of Natashquan, a remote, windswept village on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. He has received numerous distinctions including the Grand prix du disque de l' Acadé mie Charles-Cros in France and the Mé daille Vermeil offered by the City of Paris. He lives in Montreal. Lionel Daunais, a celebrated baritone, composer, and lyricist, received honors like the Canadian Music Council Medal and Calixa-Lavallé e Award. He was posthumously awarded the Denise-Pelletier Award and inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006. Marie Lafrance studied graphic arts, etching, and worked as a printmaker before going on to illustrate children's books. Over her career she's earned three nominations for the Governor General's Literary Award, and she recently received the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award for " A Hen for Izzy Pippik." She resides in Montreal.
