Holding It Down [CD]

Soul Revivers is an ambitious and collaborative project from David Hill and Nick Manasseh, bringing together icons of Jamaican music with some of London's finest musical talent, steeped in West London's reggae heritage. Following their critically acclaimed 2022 album On The Grove and it's subsequent dub counterpart Grove Dub, they return with a new album, Holding It Down. The album features a roster of legends, including Johnny Clarke, one of reggae's founding fathers, along with fellow Jamaican vocalists Susan Cadogan and Earl 16. Also appearing are trombonist Vin Gordon, trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey (aka Ms. Maurice), and Anoushka Nangay of Kokoroko. The rhythm section includes Adrian "Kenz" McKenzie (drums), Will Rast (keyboards), James Shepherd and Wayne Almond (guitars), and Colin Humphries and Dougal Caston (horns). Once again, Soul Revivers prove they are exemplars of world-class reggae, expertly drawing on the genre's rich history while incorporating contemporary artistry and new sounds to create something both fresh and timeless.
