PRE-ORDER: Piano Sons 6 7 & 8 [CD]

On her debut album, Latvian pianist Antonina Suhanova focuses on one of the most significant piano cycles of the 20th century: Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas Nos. 6, 7, and 8. Composed between 1939 and 1944, these works are often referred to as the three war sonatas - not because they are programmatic war music, but because they reflect the tensions of an era marked by political oppression, existential threats, and the upheavals of World War II. Together, they represent a high point in the piano literature of the past century and are among the most demanding works in the repertoire - both technically and musically. Antonina Suhanova's interpretation combines stylistic mastery, sonic imagination, and intellectual insight, drawing out the full dramatic force of the War Sonatas as well as their lyrical and deeply human dimensions.
