untitled: after is the debut release from two esteemed artists of the avant-jazz community, Catherine Sikora and Brian Chase. Sikora (tenor and soprano saxophones) and Chase (drumset) embrace a contemporary take on classic free improvisation, merging a sensibility of lyricism with the spontaneity of improvisation. Their instrumental virtuosity is featured as a bridge to the music it discovers. As inspiration for this recording, the classic epic poem of Beowulf was used in small excerpts and interpreted as musical source material. Think John Coltranes Interstellar Space meets epic poetry as depicted in adaptation for film.
