20 CDs, 406 tracks, 22 hours of music presented inside a 44-page hardcover book. Perhaps no other artist has had a wider influence on music, on other musicians, on Culture, as Quincy Jones. He has more Grammy nominations and awards than anyone on the planet, and when you look at his monumental body of work, it's easy to understand why he's touched such a broad audience of music lovers. He's done it all. He's even done stuff you know but didn't know he'd done it. His music reaches across all generations and styles, from jazz and bebop, to soundtracks, to pop, disco and funk, to hip-hop, R&B, fusion and rap. With over 400 album credits, assembling anything even near-complete a discography of QJ would be an impossible task. This is the largest, the most ambitious anthology ever curated, surveying his protean talents. Produced by Stéphane Lerouge, 'THE LEGACY OF QUINCY JONES' explores the quintessence of a genius: from Q's arranging and scoring to his conducting and producing; and from his big band recordings through to the urban-infused Qwest albums. Including rare recordings, this comprehensive 20-CD boxed set, in a deluxe art-book format, traverses six decisive decades, from 'Kingfish', Quincy's first recording (with Lionel Hampton in 1952), to his seminal 1956 full-length album as leader 'This Is How I Feel About Jazz' to his final recording, an original cover of Henry Mancini's 'Peter Gunn' in 2023. While bringing together his bebop, pop, soul, funk, and hip-hop albums, the set gives special focus to his iconic film and television scores (9 discs, including the first CD releases of 'For Love of Ivy', 'The Hot Rock', 'The Boy in the Tree', and the rare 'Dollars'). The box set also includes covers or original recordings never reissued since their first release (the alternate arrangement of 'Numéro 13' by Q, 'Maybe Tomorrow' by the Electronic Concept Orchestra, and 'Ironside' by Ray Martin). The 44-page hardback artbook includes interviews with Quincy from 2016 and 2021, and testimonials from Toots Thielemans and Alexandre Desplat. We find there exists 'a Jones sound', notably marked by a community of killer soloists, and objectively, the territory of Quincy Jones is more immense than you might imagine. In it's own way, from bebop to hip-hop, this luxury anthology is an attempt to survey it. Throughout his seven-decade-long career, Quincy never lost sight of his roots in big band and jazz, making sure to give serious 'props' to the many mentors who inspired him to develop his talents and to grow as an artist and he tirelessly lifted others who came into his orbit. Perhaps he was the most respected musician among musicians? Probably. Justly. With love and respect, this beautifully produced set furthers his legacy among musicians and music-lovers inspired by Q.
