Gresh Ape [CD]

Medicine Ball has spent the past 12 years quietly writing and recording music from their oft-overlooked base of Providence, RI. The years 88 thru 90†were formative and unspectacular. The period from 91 to early 96 saw the band release, in fairly rapid succession, 3 highly varied albums of†psych/punk guitar rock. Hosannas from around the world quickly followed. Mid 96 to early 98 was spent organizing the debut and attending the†second Ptolematic Terrascope "Terrastock" Festivals in Providence and San Francisco. These festivals helped tremendously to bring the band to a†wider audience. All-too-aware of the technical limitations of their previous efforts, and looking to make a break with the past, the period from late 98†to 2000 was spent recording the bands 4th album, Fresh Ape. A decision to spare no time or expense was made in order to create a record that†could both satisfy the band creatively, and, because of increased production values, reach a larger audience publicly. This album reveals a band†possessed of considerable songwriting, arranging, performance and recording talent finally realizing their potential.
